Mark Wolf Leg, Sr.

Mark's Native name is Niinoniista (Chief Calf). He is a well respected Elder from the Siksika Nation. He is a man with a caring and positive perspective on the accomplishments of our young people. During the Second World War, he enlisted with the Forty-Ninth Loyal Edmonton Regiment and fought in South Africa and Italy. He went overseas on the Queen Mary, which is one of the largest ocean liners. With his hard role as a good provider for his late wife, Mary Margaret (1919-1981), and eight children, he has taught us to work hard and take care of each other.

Throughout different tribes he is known as a war veteran, spiritual leader, and for his dedication to balancing two cultures and not making one better than the other. As a role model, he encourages the younger generations to learn their tribal languages in order to preserve their tribal customs and values.

Our Elders at PICSS are our resource people and our guides. Mark Wolf Leg, Sr., is among these Elders. He has taught us -- the staff and students -- to be kind and work hard to achieve the best we can.
