Powerful Images: Portrayals of Native America exhibition and accompanying catalogue are the results of a cooperative effort by many individuals and institutions. The curatorial team for the projects consisted of Sarah Boehme , John S. Bugas Curator of the Whitney Gallery of Art, Buffalo Bill Historical Center; Gerald Conaty, senior ethnologist at the Glenbow Museum; Clifford Crane Bear, Treaty 7 Liaison, Glenbow from the Glenbow Museum; Emma I. Hansen, curator of the Plains Indian Museum, Buffalo Bill Historical Center; Mike Leslie, curator of ethnology at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame; and James Nottage, vice president and chief curator at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. Consultants Dave Warren and Jeanine Pease Pretty On Top provided oversight throughout the development of the exhibition. Cynthia Harnisch, director of education at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage provided guidance and expertise with educational programming. Several museum advisory boards provided valuable input throughout the planning and implementation of this project, including the American Indian Advisory Board at the Eiteljorg Museum, the Plains Indian Museum Advisory Board at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, First Nations Advisory Council, the Plains Indian Cultural Survival School and the American Indian Education Commission/Los Angles Unified School District. The exhibition was designed by Larry Samuels, exhibit designer for the Eiteljorg Museums of American Indians and Western Art. Exhibition furniture was built by N.B.F. MFG., Inc., Museum and Gallery Displays. The web site exhibition was developed and designed by Melanie Kjorlien, Glenbow Museum, Tim Mumford, Glenbow Museum, and Anita Dammer, Glenbow Museum. The on-line teacher's guide was developed by Kim Milliken, Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Kathy Talley Jones, Curriculum Specialist, and Jim Angus, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. |
