Eh-toh'k-pah-she-pée-shah,The Black Moccasin, Hidatsa by George Catlin

George Catlin (1796 - 1872)
Eh-toh'k-pah-she-pée-shah,The Black Moccasin, Hidatsa

Although Catlin tried to keep the paintings in his Indian Gallery together as a group, he painted additional versions of his original subjects, resulting in works such as this portrait of an aged Hidatsa leader. While his gallery of images included many portraits of young, vibrant Indian subjects, Catlin made certain to include portrayals of wise, venerable patriarchs.
