The Great Mystery--Moonlight by Joseph Henry Sharp

Joseph Henry Sharp (1859 - 1953)
The Great Mystery--Moonlight

Sharp wrote "The Indian reverence for the Great Spirit is universal. They go to the mountains to fast and pray for their 'medicine' and guidance." While he recognized the importance of spiritual concerns in Indian cultures, his designation of a "universal" spirituality, coupled with his romantic representation of an Indian meditating on mystery, presents a positive stereotype.
