Frederic Remington (1861 - 1909) The Cheyenne Seeking images for his paintings and sculpture, Remington traveled throughout the West, often in the company of military troops who were engaged in conflicts with Indian tribes. The artist greatly admired the military life and the role of battles in testing and proving an individual's worth. Because of this vantage point, Remington saw, and often portrayed, Indian subjects as the enemy. Yet he also admired the Indian warrior's fortitude and skills.
