Cassily Adams (1843 - 1921), artist This print is probably the best known visual interpretation of the battle of the Little Big Horn, and, in fact, may be one of the best known images in American art due to the wide distribution of this print. Adams painted his version of Custer's last stand in the 1880s, and it hung in a St. Louis saloon, which was acquired by the Anheuser-Busch brewing company. Anheuser-Busch then produced a lithographic print of the painting and gave prints to their distributors, bars, and other outlets. Through its display, it became widely known to diverse audiences.
