The wood sculptures of Willard Stone express cultural values, origins, and traditions of the Cherokee and historical experiences such as the Trail of Tears. Many of his works relate to creation, birth, children, and motherhood, both human and in nature. Willard Stone worked in wood native to Oklahoma, including maple, walnut, sassafras, cherry, and cedar.
